Filed in: Diseases.

The sun's rays in summer are a real burden for each one of us. Mirrors, glass, windows that reflect sunlight attack us at every step. Here you will find everything you need to know and the steps you can take to control photophobia.

When we leave the darkness to light or vice versa, the eye will take a while to adjust, which will cause some discomfort. But when it comes to pain, irritation, tearing, headache, this means you have a real problem with light!

Photophobia is worthy of all medical attention and requires a complete eye examination and proper treatment.

Behind the sensitivity of the eyes there are some problems that it is not good to ignore:

Eye diseases: such as conjunctivitis, blepharitis or infection of the eyelids, uveitis or inflammation of the tissue under the eye, glaucoma, myopia, corneal scratches, foreign bodies. In principle, any condition, however small, can cause photophobia.

Generalized diseases: measles, arthritis and other inflammatory diseases can be accompanied by eye diseases such as keratitis (inflammation of the cornea) and uveitis, which accentuate the sensitivity of the eyes to light.

Some medications: Most medications administered directly to the eye cause a more or less pronounced sensitivity. Otherwise, these medications for high blood pressure can trigger photophobia in most people.

Contact lenses: can produce some microtrauma at eye level, which in turn can also cause photosensitivity.

External factors: some gases (tears), dry and hot wind, fog, smoke.

Cataracts: without being particularly photophobic in the case, since there is pain, some types of cataracts are manifested by tearing.
