Chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic calculi diseases are formations of calcification or stones in the pancreatic duct that cause duct obstruction. It can lead to obstruction and to the pancreas causing acute pain in the stomach that radiates to the back or chronic persistent pain. It can lead to an indigestion that causes 5 to 6 oily and malodorous stools with an early onset of diabetes, weight loss and malnutrition.
The causes of this disease are:
Consumption of alcohol Gallstones Tropical or hereditary origin Too much fat consumption
An early diagnosis is needed to cure it:
The ultrasound of the abdomen followed by an abdominal magnetic resonance can achieve the diagnosis The causal factor must be treated. The intake of alcohol needs to be stopped. Removal of the gallbladder should be done if gallstones are the causative factor.
If there are too many symptoms, a medical treatment such as analgesics, antoxipan and pancreatic enzyme supplements such as Creon can help relieve symptoms.
Extreme cases may require endotherapy or pancreatic surgery to open the duct and remove the stones called lateral pancreaticojejunostomy. Avoid fat diets. Treat early diabetes and take pancreatic enzyme supplements to prevent further damage to the pancreas. The report of the fatty pancreas on ultrasound should be investigated with the blood levels of the amylase lipase to rule out this condition.
