Oil extraction: the habit that can transform your health

Filed in: Article, detox, gut-health, insomnia.

Oil extraction is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy for oral health and detoxification. It involves the use of pure oils as agents to extract harmful bacteria, fungi and other organisms from the mouth, teeth, gums and even the throat.

How to pull oil

The most effective oil extraction is done by placing about a tablespoon of cold pressed organic sesame oil in the mouth and shaking the oil around the mouth for about 10-15 minutes and then spitting it out.

Other oils such as Extra cold pressed virgin CoconutSunflower and olive oil have been used, although sesame oil is considered one of the best oils for this practice. I recommend alternate oils every two days to get the full benefit. Putting high quality organic oils in your mouth has a multiple effect result.

First, the oils mix with the saliva, turning it into a thin, white liquid. The lipids in the oils begin to remove the toxins from the saliva. As the oil swirls around the mouth, teeth, gums and tongue, the oil continues to absorb toxins and, in general, becomes thick, viscous and white. Once the oil has reached this consistency, it is spit out before the toxins are reabsorbed.

What does the extraction of oil do?

Multiple scientific studies show the efficacy of oil extraction therapy. A study shows that the extraction of oil with sesame oil can improve oral health in general. Specifically, the use of sesame oil as an oral health agent helps reduce the amount of S. mutans (germ) in the plaque of both teeth and in the saliva of the mouth. Scientists believe that the lipids in the oil extract bacteria and prevent bacteria from adhering to the walls of the oral cavity.

The extraction of oil can also increase saponification in the mouth, creating a soapy environment that cleans the mouth, since vegetable fat is an emulsifier by nature. The most interesting is perhaps the ability of the oil to clean harmful bacteria, as well as to reduce the excessive growth of fungi. These oils can also help in cell restructuring and are related to the proper functioning of the lymph nodes and other internal organs.

Sesame oil is particularly high in the antioxidants sesamol, sesamin and sesamin. It also has a high concentration of vitamin E and polyunsaturated fatty acids. It has been found that these antioxidants stop the absorption of negative forms of cholesterol in the liver. Multiple studies have shown the antibacterial capabilities of sesame oil. These studies support the use of oil extraction in the prevention of dental caries and gingivitis.

Another study, conducted in 2008, found a "noticeable reduction in the total bacterial count" in the mouth and a remarkable overall reduction in dental caries susceptibility. The antibacterial activity of sesame oil was also studied and found to have an effect on Streptococcus mutans in the mouth.

In fact, these studies showed a general reduction of bacteria from 10 to 33.4% in the participants, and after 40 days of oil extraction, participants were found to show a 20% average reduction in oral bacteria.
