McDonalds chicken nuggets are favorite with children in many families. The parents buy the "chicken nuggets" believing that they are really made of chicken. McDonalds even offers brochures entitled "A full portion of nutritional information: choose the best food for you." However, as you can see in the list of ingredients below, there is much more than just chicken.

Chicken, water, salt, modified corn starch, sodium phosphates, chicken powder broth (chicken broth, salt and natural flavorings (chicken source)), seasonings (vegetable oil, rosemary extracts, mono, di and triglycerides) , lecithin). Crushed and breaded with water, enriched bleached wheat flour (niacin, iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), yellow corn flour, bleached wheat flour, modified corn starch, salt, yeast (sodium bicarbonate, pyrophosphate of sodium acid, sodium and sodium phosphate), monocalcium phosphate, calcium lactate), spices, wheat starch, dry whey, corn starch. Smoothie in vegetable shortening. Cooked in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, (may contain partially hydrogenated soybean oil and / or partially hydrogenated corn oil and / or partially hydrogenated canola oil and / or cottonseed oil and / or sunflower oil and / or cooking oil. corn). TBHQ and citric acid were added to help preserve freshness. Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.

There are 38 ingredients in a McNugget; Many of them made of corn. Further down the list are the mono, diandiglycerides and emulsifiers that prevent fats and water from separating. More corn flour is used to make the dough, and the hydrogenated oil in which the seeds are fried may come from soy, canola or cottonseed, depending on the market price.

Worse: some of the ingredients come from petroleum products, to prevent items from spoiling or looking "strange" after months in the freezer or on the road. If you are really worried, look for these ingredients: aluminum and sodium phosphate; Mono-calcium phosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate and calcium lactate. These are used to prevent animal and vegetable fats from becoming rancid. Then there are "antifoaming" agents such as dimethyl polysiloxane. According to the Manual of Food Additives, this material is a suspected carcinogen and an established mutagen, a tumorigenic and a reproductive effector. It is also flammable.

The most alarming ingredient in Chicken McNuggets is the "tertiary butyl hydroquinone" or TBHQ, derived from petroleum. This is sprayed directly on the nugget or inside the box that comes to "help preserve freshness." Again, according to the Consumer Dictionary of Food Additives, TBHQ is a form of butane (liquid for lighters) that the FDA allows processors to use sparingly in our food. It can contain no more than 0.02 percent of the oil in a nugget. What is probably just as good, considering that taking a single gram of TBHQ can cause "nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, delirium, feeling of suffocation and collapse." The ingestion of five grams can be fatal.
