Ben and Jerry leave without dairy, but are they healthier?

We have to admit that a small part of us got a little excited when we saw the news that Ben and Jerry are about to launch a range of ice cream without dairy products. But the rumor was quickly crushed when we looked at the ingredient lists.

While the favorite flavors like Chunky Monkey and Chocolate Fudge Brownie have been transformed into vegan versions, they are definitely not healthy. Just take a look at one of the flavors …

Chunky Monkey Ingredients:
Almond milk (water, almonds), liquid sugar (sugar, water), coconut oil, sugar, nuts, bananas, corn syrup solids, dried cane syrup, cocoa, pea protein, sunflower lecithin, milk concentrate lemon juice, soy lecithin, vanilla extract, Guar Gum, Natural Flavor (Coco), Locust Bean Gum.

Can anyone say "sugar"? Ben and Jerry can and they say it 4 different times! – Liquid sugar, sugar, corn syrup solids, dry cane syrup. All the sugar

That explains the 6 1/2 teaspoons (26 g) of sugar per 1/2 cup served! The ice cream is practically milk of almonds and sugar joined by several gums and additives with some coverings such as nuts and bananas in good measure.

We will not recommend this to anyone in the short term.
